Vermont Governor Election: AP Calls Race for Scott, Who Wins a Sixth Term

The Associated Press called Vermont's governor's race on the evening of November 3 for Republican incumbent Governor Phil Scott, who defeated Democratic challenger Amanda Janoo to win a sixth two-year term. Vermont is in New England in the northeastern United States, and its capital is Montpelier.

The AP results page snapshot showed 280 of the state's 283 precincts reporting, about 98.94 percent, with an estimated 98.69 percent of the vote counted; Scott had 161,432 votes to Janoo's 141,181. Janoo conceded on election night.

It was Scott's closest re-election race in years: he won more than 73 percent of the vote in 2024 but led by only about seven points this time. Janoo, an economist from Burlington and a political newcomer, campaigned on proposals including publicly funded universal primary care. Vermont governors serve two-year terms with no term limit. Results are unofficial until state canvassing and certification are complete.
